Since the early 90s, ST has been committed to supporting advances in narrow-band power-line communication (PLM/PLT/PLC) technologies that then became largely adopted by Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) and Automatic Meter Infrastructures (AMI) solutions at the heart of the smart grid concept.


STM large and expanding offer ranges from our first generation analog FSK transceivers with an integrated power-line driver to a second generation, dual-core, multi-protocol, STarGRID® system-on-chip platform with an integrated power-line driver, analog front-end and AES encryption that supports B-FSK, B-PSK, Q-PSK, 8-PSK and OFDM modulations.

STM newest release is the future-proof, fully-programmable, dual-core STCOMET SoC platform supporting channels up to 500 kHz, with an integrated AFE, power-line driver and programmable modem. The STCOMET platform also includes a fully-integrated smart meter SoC that embeds high-performance metrology functions.

To ensure ST's PLM/PLT/PLC transceivers can be readily integrated into tomorrow's smart meter designs, we are among the principal members of major industry alliances committed to the development of standard communication protocols for the smart grid including PRIME, PLC- G3 and METERS AND MORE®. In addition, STM transceivers comply with EN50065, FCC and ARIB standards.

STM power-line communication platform comes with an extensive toolbox that includes evaluation boards, evaluation software and certified protocol stacks, providing designers with a comprehensive development environment enabling easy integration into new and existing designs and shorter time to market.

The STarGRID®SoC ST75MM device is a flexible power line communication system-on-chip combining a high performing PHY processor and a protocol controller core implementing the turnkey METERS AND MORE protocol along with the fully integrated “Analog Front-End” (AFE) and line driver in a single chip, for future-proof, compact and cost effective advanced metering infrastructure solutions.
STCOM     Powerline communication and application system-on-chip (500KBit)
The STCOM is a device that integrates a power line communication (PLC) modem and a high-performance application core.
The PLC modem architecture has been designed to target EN50065, FCC, ARIB compliant PLC applications. Together with the application core, it enables the STCOM to support the PRIME, G1, G3, IEEE 1901.2, METERS AND MORE® and other narrow band PLC protocol specifications.
STCOMET Smart meter and powerline communication system-on-chip (500KBit)
The STCOMET is a device that integrates a power line communication (PLC) modem, a high-performance application core and metrology functions.
The PLC modem architecture has been designed to target EN50065, FCC, ARIB compliant PLC applications. Together with the application core, it enables the STCOMET to support the PRIME, G1, G3, IEEE 1901.2, METERS AND MORE® and other narrow band PLC protocol specifications.
The metrology sub-system is suitable for EN 50470-1, EN 50470-3, IEC 62053-21, IEC 62053-22 and IEC 62053-23 compliant class1, class0.5 and class0.2 AC metering applications.

STMicroelectronics’ narrowband Power Line Transceivers (PLT) provide reliable communication over existing power lines with limited data throughput required by main remote control applications like Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) and Management (AMM), street lighting control, loads management and home and building automation.
The very favorable cost/performance ratio makes ST’s transceivers a unique communication alternative or extension of more conventional dedicated wireline and
